MyDASHDiet App Reviews

Great start; needs work

I was delighted to see this app, and its a promising start -- clean interface, and I like the primary Daily Diet screens at-a-glace tracking of servings in the DASH Diet categories. I also like the ability to add to the library. However, there are some flaws that seriously compromise the apps utility. First, there seems to be no way to delete entries from either Daily Diet or Library -- the "edit" and "plus" keys appear to have add-only functionality right now, and I was immediately frustrated by the inability to delete some mistaken entries that made daily counts inaccurate. Second, there seemst to be no way to modify some aspects of the profile - e.g., I would like to change the target daily caloric intake.

Excellent app

It is helpful. Doctors might find it useful. Perhaps a drug company could sponsor it.

Good Enough, But . . .

Three revisions would help: 1. Correct the spelling of (Daily) Allowence (sic). See screen shot page four above. Yes, its misspelled in the app too. 2. As previous reviewer noted, there is a need for a feature that permits entry errors to be removed, i.e., I finger fumbled squash, but I meant to enter spinach. Im stuck with the squash entry. 3. There is no ability (that I can find) to go back in and add food for a past date like yesterday. i forgot to add the yogurt that I ate for a midnight snack. I cant go back and enter it.

Does need work..

Aside from what everyone is saying below.. You can delete your entries. Swipe your finger across over the item that was entered incorrectly and a delete button will show up. Otherwise, Im finding it very difficult to add foods that are not listed in the already stored database. For example, If I order a meal at a restaurant and I need to add it on the app, it is very difficult to know the nutrition information of each item on the plate. The amount of food items that are already "stored" in the app are very vague and uniform. Not all brands and food have the same nutrition information. Unless you physically have the box of food that youre eating from with the nutritional fact information on the outside staring you in the face then it is easy to input that information: otherwise its extremely difficult and frustrating at times that you cant efficiently add everything you want to in the app... Just some considerations I hope you app makers can revise! Otherwise I think its a great app with a great purpose, just needs fine tuning!!!

Livstrong

This application doesnt have many foods in the library. Im constantly adding foods and filling in the blanks. Livstrong app is much better.

Excellent nutritional tool

Ive had the app for a few days and like it. It isnt intuitively obvious how to change or add to the default information, but once you figure it out, it isnt hard. I would suggest that users read the info under Reference first and be aware that there is an accompanying website with more detailed explanations of how to input additional items. Now that Ive added a few items that I eat frequently (like sweet potatoes and garbanzo beans) it will be easier for me to just select portions from my customized library. I still havent figured out how to count partial portions, but I did get an answer to my question within an hour from the Contact info. My wish: that it be possible to customize recommended portions for a vegetarian diet. For now Im just mentally allocating the meat portions to extra dairy, legumes, and nuts. I REALLY like having a quick and easy count of how Im doing on fiber, fat, and sugars. This app is going to be really helpful.

Like it. Good app!

I do like this app and hope I will continue to see drop in BP. I told my Dr. I am using dash and she is very pleased. Took me awhile to figure out how to make changes but seem to have figured it out now. I guess like everyone I want someone to do it for me. I did find out how to adjust portions for me.

Useless for vegetarians

The app is functional and easy enough to use, but it counts tofu under the "nuts" category and has a "meat" category rather than a "protein" one. If tofu and other beans are your main source of protein this app wont accurately track your weekly consumption of REAL nuts. I doubt Ill use it now that Ive bought it, so $3 wasted.

Disappointed Customer

This is the worst app I have ever encountered. Ive used my fitness pal and loved it but was specifically looking for something tailored to the dash diet. I thought Id found the perfect app but this is useless. I would suggest the developer create an account with my fitness pal, use it for a week and then modify this to be something useful. I cant believe Ive paid $2.99 for this.

Tracks DASH on the go!

So pleased to find this app. I wanted to be able to track without paper. I am not interested to track calories or specific foods. The reference section is thorough & true to this program. Followed Dash 8 years ago, was able to stop bp meds within 3 years & lost 10% of my body weight during the 1st 8 months. Stopped tracking, continued eating healthy & kept the weight off until the onset of perimenopause; still off bp meds. Small price for a tool that will help me focus again.

Lousy App

I wish I would have listened to Liz225. This was a total waste of $2.99 - I wish I could get a refund! Very useless. Stick to MyFitnessPal for free and it does everything.

Barbara in Decatur

Excellent for maintaing less than 500mg sodium in diet. Aids in realistic diet adjusting blood pressure.

Settings?

When I try to add something to yesterdays diet i get a popup that says "no editing, you can change this in settings" and as far as I can tell, there are no settings outside of the calorie profile. Secondly, the servings are vastly different from the dash book. While the book advises 4-5 oz protein, the app only allows for 3, the boom also recommends 3 dairy while the app, 2.5. The book 3-5 grains, the app...7...the app recommends something like 40g sugar and how anyone can eat 4 fruits for less than 40g is beyond me...I could go on.... Finally, there are some great foods at baseline but items like sweet potatoes, plums, raspberries arent included? Some serious improvements are needed but there is potential. For a paid app I expected better...

user friendly

Simple and user friendly. The app really needs more food choices and an exercise tracker. Attention to the designers - please create updates!!!

Poor

Like others said, dont buy it. Stick with myfitnesspal. Free and it does more. Was hoping for something good bit sadly everything is way off on the numbers.

Really poor

This app is not at all what I thought I was getting for my money. First of all it only allows you to but in your age target weight sex activity level and birthday. It then figures your calories for you and you cannot alter that! If I ate as many calories as it says I would gain 20 lbs. secondly it does not keep track of cholesterol. I am very disappointed. I will go back to my free

Perfect app for DASH

If you are looking for a diet app this may not work for you. But if you are trying to follow the real DASH diet then this app does exactly what you need it too. It has basic food listed. I can add foods I eat often. It keeps track of my sodium. It is perfect.

Disappointing

This app is exactly what I was looking for--a quick and easy way to track my DASH diet servings, and I really like the quick reminders of what constitutes a serving. HOWEVER, I had to lie to it (saying Im 30 years older than I am) to get it to allow me to have the goal number of calories that the DASH book recommends for me (the app had me at 300 extra calories). And even then, the servings are wrong. For 1200 calories it says I should be eating 6 servings of grain (should be 5 according to the book) and 4.5 servings of meat (should be 1.5). Suggestion: upgrade to allow users to change their daily calorie and serving goals. Ill keep it on my phone in the hopes of an upgrade, but its currently useless.

Really bad

Right idea - terrible execution. Profile calories and servings all wrong (way to high calculations for both) doesnt match diet at all. Hasnt been updated in ages. Save your $

Not so good

Disappointed at the limited lists of food ( hello, Kale?), and inability to add foods.
